Diesel versus Gasoline Engines

Diesel Engine

Customization is extremely important these days. We certainly took this principle into consideration when designing our Lite Trax vehicles. Each customer uses their Lite Trax in a unique way; whether it is put to use as a trail grooming tool, a plow, or a remote cabin vehicle, the Lite Trax is able to mold to the use that it is needed for.

One of the great customizable options for the 2014-2015 Lite Trax vehicles is the possibility to have either Diesel or Gasoline engines. Both are great options for a variety of reasons. In theory, both engines operate in similar ways as internal combustion engines. Through a complicated process of pistons, crank shafts, combustions, and plenty more, they convert chemical energy into mechanical energy. The most notable difference between diesel and gasoline engines is the method via which the combustions occur in order to convert the fuel into mechanical energy.

Gasoline:

In a gasoline engine, fuel is combined with air, compressed by pistons and ignited by the spark plugs. The end result is a smooth mechanical energy which allows your Lite Trax vehicle to take on the most treacherous snow and ice. For most people, a gasoline engine will be very capable of tackling any task. In comparison to diesel, gasoline is a more affordable option.

Diesel:

In a diesel engine, the air is first compressed by the pistons and then fuel is injected. Because the compression process heats the air, it is able to ignite the fuel immediately. Therefore, diesel engines require no spark plugs. Diesel fuel is also known to be a higher energy fuel, meaning that it often can create a more powerful output of energy. Diesel vehicles are known to be better on mileage and more energy efficient. In comparison, diesel also emits a much smaller amount of carbon dioxide. However they do emit more nitrogen particles which can offset their savings of carbon dioxide.

No matter which engine you choose for your Lite Trax vehicle, you can be sure that it will be able to handle any snowy, icy, muddy situation that you throw at it. To learn more about Lite Trax and our variety of engine options, visit our products page on our main site.
